When visiting Athens, the Acropolis is a definite must on any tourist itinirary. The Acropolis is one of the most impressive remnants of ancient Athens. The structure is situated at the heart of the modern city and was built in honour of the godess Athena, daughter of Zeus. It is at the cornerstone of one of the most precious of Greek myths and is one of the most treasured sanctuaries with sacred, religious festivals and decisive events in Greek history having taken place here.
