They row along hippo and crocodile packed waters in a traditional Mokoro boat, take to the skies for a helicopter safari with Helicopter Horizon, experience a guided walking safari with andBeyond, immerse themselves in local culture with some singing and cooking lessons before watching the sun set over the water and experiencing crystal clear starlit skies.

Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge

A maze of meandering water channels, papyrus-fringed banks and floating islands teeming with wildlife: known as the river that never finds the sea, Botswana’s Okavango Delta is the jewel of the Kalahari.

In the heart of the Delta, on the edge of a waterway, you’ll find Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge. Situated on a diverse, wildlife-rich, private concession, Sandibe has exclusive traversing rights over a vast 22,500 hectares (55,600 acres) of wildlife land bordering the Moremi Game Reserve.

The inspired organic design of the lodge melts into the surrounding forest canopy of wild palms and gnarled fig trees. Trees will shade you as you approach the lodge; an intriguing curl and sweep of shingled wood comes into view, resembling a giant scaled pangolin at rest. Stairs open onto the high ceilings of the copper-toned and glassless guest area overlooking the Delta. From this central dining area, the wooden deck stretches beyond the roof, while the upstairs bar and lounge extend along an elevated walkway to a viewing platform.

A series of decks descend to the forest floor culminating in a log boma, with a small gym and private massage sala close by. Interior finishes throughout showcase the craftsmanship of Botswana’s artisans, and feature intricate basketware, sculpted wooden tables and unique feature pieces. While the main guest area is set within the forest, the twelve guest suites peep out from beneath its canopy. Raised above the papyrus-lined banks like golden weaver nests, each is a cocoon of privacy, with breathtaking views, a private plunge pool and cosy fireplace.

Travel like a Top Traveller in Namibia

If the red dunes and winding rivers of Namibia are on your travel bucket list, here’s a few ‘Top Travel Tips’ from Anesu on how to get the best out of your trip.

Up your hat game

Sun protection is absolutely key, so have fun exploring different hats to give your wardrobe some flair.

Obviously sunscreen goes hand-in-hands with this – for body, lips and face, and keep reapplying!

Visit the dunes early

If you are planning a dune hike try to leave as early in the morning as possible so you catch the desert at its coolest. If you’re already sweating before starting, then it may be wise to manage your expectations of how high you want to climb due to the heat. And remember to pack EXTRA water!

Take your time exploring

You may be tempted to speed your way through Namibia but the drama of this country demands time to be fully appreciated. I really enjoyed exploring both the arid desert and lush water environments of Namibia, which are on opposite ends of the country, and I’m already planning my next trip back to explore the sea!

If you can, opt for a full country exploration of this incredible place and prepare to be wowed at every stop.

Travel Tips: Namibia

Top Travel Tips When Visiting Namibia

Namibia – what a breathtaking country! With its vast landscapes and otherworldly scenery, it’s a dream destination for many adventurous travelers. Navigating this beautiful country by car (or 4×4!) offers a unique sense of freedom and exploration. However, before heading out on your Namibian road trip, be sure you’re well prepared for the adventure that awaits.

Top Travel Tips:

1. Drive on the left: Like many other countries, Namibia follows left-hand driving. Keep this in mind to stay safe on the roads and avoid confusion.

2. You need a 4×4 to make it through sand and gravel: Namibia’s terrain can be rugged, especially in remote areas and national parks. A 4×4 is highly recommended to navigate through sandy tracks and gravel roads with ease.

3. Pack extra tires and a compressor: Namibian roads can be tough on tires, particularly in remote regions. Make sure you have at least two spare tires and a compressor to handle any unexpected drama.

4. Fuel up where and when you can: Fuel stations can be scarce in certain parts of Namibia, so it’s crucial to refuel whenever you have the opportunity to avoid running low and getting stranded.

5. Pack essentials, including plenty of water and snacks: Some roads in Namibia are incredibly remote, with long stretches between towns and shops. Stock up on essentials, water, and snacks to stay hydrated and energised during your journey.

6. Be prepared for dust: The country’s dry climate means dusty roads are a given. Keep your windows closed and try not to get too upset when your freshly washed car takes on a shade of brown.

7. Avoid driving at night: The roads are often unlit, making driving at night dangerous due to reduced visibility and the presence of wildlife. So if you can, stick to daytime driving.

8. Be on the lookout for wild animals: Namibia boasts an abundance of wildlife, including oryx and rhinos! Be on the lookout in case they cross the road unexpectedly, but ‘spot the oryx’ is also a fun game to play to keep the family entertained.

9. Buy a SIM card at the airport: Internet connectivity can be limited outside major towns and cities. Our tip is to buy a local SIM card upon arrival at the airport to stay connected during your journey.

10. Travel with a map and GPS: As much as we LOVE the convenience of a GPS, when technology fails, it’s always good to have a physical map to navigate Namibia’s vast open spaces.

Keep these tips in mind next time you’re planning your epic adventure, and your trip is bound to be filled with stunning landscapes and unforgettable experiences. Safe travels!
